Frequently Asked Questions

What is Personalized Nutrition?

Personalized Nutrition is tailored to your specific needs and aims to get to the root cause of what is wrong with you. Food is medicine and will either help prevent or promote chronic disease development. Personalized Nutrition looks at everything in your lifestyle i.e. stress, sleep, environment, exercise, medical history, lab results and much more! All these factors are considered when we develop a care plan that supports and educates you so you can achieve sustainable lifelong health and wellness.

What is the difference between a Health Coach, Nutritionist, and Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist?

Health Coach : A Health Coach undergoes a training / certification program to use this title. However, they do not address specific or personalized disease management. Health Coaches can help you set goals and motivate you to achieve basic lifestyle and nutrition changes for general overall health.

Nutritionist : There is no strict training or certification required to call yourself a Nutritionist. They can be formally trained of self – taught. Be sure to ask anyone using this title if they have formal training or a degree in nutrition and the length of the program before you work with them.

Registered Dietitian / Nutritionist : A Registered Dietitian / Nutritionist has met specific academic requirements and follows strict professional guidelines to maintain this credential with a minimun of a 4 year Bachelors degree in Nutrition plus an internship plus pass a board certification exam. Registered Dietitians look at your medical history, lab results, health symptoms and more to help to devise a nutrition care plan based on your individual needs and circumstances. RDN’s provide counseling to help you make behavior changes so you can achieve your health and wellness goals.

Why would I want to work with you? What makes you different?

Good question! When you work with me you get a 100% personalized approach to your unique health and nutrition needs. I specialize in autoimmune issues and use evidenced – based integrative strategies to get to the root cause of your autoimmune issues so you can feel better and get on with your life.

Do you accept insurance?

All services are self-pay. I don’t bill insurance at this time. Why? Medical Nutrition Therapy may or may not be covered by your insurance company. Often, a visit with a Registered Dietitian will be covered only if referred by a physician and/or for certain conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney disease, or obesity. Since my consultations consider the health of your whole body, I often work with people with issues that are not traditionally reimbursable by insurance companies. However, I can provide you with paperwork that you can submit to your insurer for potential reimbursement or apply the costs to your insurance deductible.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

All nutrition consults are done virtually by either phone or video conference via a HIPPAA secure client portal.

I’m ready, how do I schedule my first appointment with you?

I’m so excited to begin working with you! Go to my calendar to schedule a time to meet that works for you.

What if I need to reschedule an appointment?

If you need to reschedule, please e-mail or message me via the secure client portal so we can find a time that works better for you. However, please remember if you reschedule less than 24 hours of your appointment time, you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee.
